Using Blogs and Wikis

These activities must be completed by March 2, 2009.  Plan to spend about 1.5-2 hours on this week's activities.

This Week's Activities

  • Go to the Video Blog and watch my message about Classroom Blogs and Wikis on the IP&T 286 Group blog (5 minutes).
  • Comment on this week's Gospel Insights Presentation(s). Think about the message as well as the presentation of the message.  What have you learned from their presentation?  How will you apply their message in your life?  What suggestions can you offer the author for making the presentation more effective?  What ideas does their presentation give you for future presentations that you may make? (10 minutes)
  • Read articles and guides
  • Contribute to or comment on the Classroom Web Presence Rubric. (5 minutes)
  • Describe your plan for a classroom blog or wiki program and share your plan with me using Google Docs.  In your plan, address the following items. (1 hour)
    • The content area you expect to teach as well as the grade level of the students
    • The Utah Core Curriculum Goals or Standards that you will address using your classroom blogging program
    • The content/features that your classroom web presence will provide for each of the following audiences.  You do not need to treat all audiences equally.
      • Students
      • Parents
      • Administrators
      • Yourself
      • Other Teachers
      • The General Public
    • What precautions will you take for your students' safety while using your site?
    • How will you manage/grade student participation on the classroom website?
    • The basic organization of your site.  Diagrams or sketches may be helpful.  You can also include links to websites that you find inspirational.
