Why did I become a teacher?

I chose to be a teacher because I wanted a career where I could be of service to others. Education can be one of the most powerful forces for growth in an individual's life and I felt that as a teacher, I could help people grow.
My personal philosophy of teaching . . .
I believe that people learn best when allowed to experiment with ideas, concepts, techniques, and tools on their own. The role of a teacher is to help students set goals and complete activities that will help the grow toward their goals. Students should take as much responsibility over their learning as possible, but teachers should always be available to encourage, answer questions and help students move forward.
My opinion on the role of technology in teaching . . .
I think technology helps increase the pace at which we can learn. Through technology we have access to more information than ever before. Technology also help us to organize and process information in new, more efficient ways.
Rationale for an online course . . .
I wanted to teach this class online because I felt that an online schedule would help students complete work at their own pace and also allow me to provide more individual feedback to students than is possible in a one hour a week classroom setting.
What I'm hoping to learn from this course . . .
I'm hoping to learn about the level of autonomy or choice that students feel comfortable with in an online teaching environment. I'm also hoping to learn many new ideas from my students' projects for teaching with technology.
